Thanks for giving peace a chance.
Our volunteers donated more than 4,450 hours to help end the wars and begin the peace for 498 families, in 2022.
There's nothing else like mediation. And this is no ordinary mediation program. With the help of our expert volunteer mediators, an unparalleled 90% of our co-parents become the heroes of their own stories.
Thanks the generous support of private donors, SC Family Mediation was able to provide our volunteer team members with $28,050 in honorariums, in 2022. We are not funded by the courts. Our largest donors have consistently been the Pritzker Foster Care Initiative and the Erich and Della Koenig Foundation.
Since 2014, SCFM volunteers have served 4,000 families in the Los Angeles County adoption and children's/dependency court systems.
Children's (or dependency) courts are: where families are sent when something has gone wrong for the parents and children. Parents often have to complete a Family Reunification (FR) plan. FR plans sometimes include drug or alcohol testing, anger management & parenting classes, and individual & joint counseling.
Co-parents: have children together, but live separately.
After about two years in the system, free mediation provides successful co-parents with their opportunity to create their own custom detailed written Parenting Plan. Parenting plans include all the details they will need to co-parent safely & successfully for our next generation, the kids. Parenting Plans include: a detailed schedule, transportation, exchanges, communication, travel, and holiday plans. Our Parenting Plans also include the flexibility families need & deserve, to take back control of their lives and maintain their freedom from the courts.
Without a detailed Parenting Plan created through mediation, families exit the system through a revolving door, only to return, and then the children return as young parents. This leads to crime on the streets and broken futures. We can help stop this from happening, together, with your help.
A fully funded program could provide free mediation workshops for more than 1,200 families per year. We give parents a voice about their futures.
Help us empower families with the techniques, tools, and structure they need to co-parent more peacefully and successfully.
