MEDIATION LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteer & Volunteer-to-Hire Opportunities

It's an exciting time to be a part of our small & fast-growing nonprofit.  We offer great opportunities in the fields of non-profit and mediation.  Administrative positions are currently volunteer-based, soon to be volunteer-to-hire.  To find out more, email your resume to info@socalfm.org.

ADMINISTRATION & LEADERSHIP

We are an innovative bunch.  Projects include:

  • PBC: Pre-mediation conflict communication education system for high conflict co-parents, project design/development.
  • Conflict Lab: Ever notice patterns in conflict communications?  We do.  Work with the best co-mediators helping design engagement systems.
  • Settlement Conference Mediations: Most experienced mediators only.
  • Leadership: A new internship program with the USC school of Social Work.
  • Graduates Project: Post juvenile justice evaluation & recommendation.

To find out more, email your CV to info@socalfm.org.

SC FAMILY MEDIATION MEDIATORS ARE EXCEPTIONAL

  • We do not require a law degree.
  • Mediators should be volunteer professionals, not professional volunteers.
  • Since 2019, based on funds, we've shared honorariums up to $45/mediation
  • We employ the co-mediation model of two mediators per mediation, so you'll always be learning.
  • We mediate on weekdays only, beginning with our famously popular Pre-Mediation Micro-Trainings at 7:45am Pacific Time to (possibly as late as) 4:00pm Pacific Time.
  • We require mediators to co-mediate at least one day every other week.
  • 40-Hour Advanced Family and Dependency Mediation training is required.
  • Continuing Education requirements apply.

Online Dispute Resolution (ODR)

#1 for 2021: ODR Mediation, Family Success Rate: 88%

Something special is happening here.  Everything begins with our amazing administration team.  They set the tone, in preparation for each mediation.  Parents and mediators alike appreciate the extra support and attention provided by these charismatic and caring professionals.

We provide "distance mediations" on-line.  Some, but not all of our mediators will eventually return to in-person mediations at the courthouses, once it seem safe and they fully reopen.

Bring your beginner's mind.  Learn to adapt and innovate styles & strategies.  You will be helping underserved & underfunded families & children in dire need of agreements.

A frequent reason given for satisfaction with mediating with this program is the quality and commitment of our team members.

Ken Cloke -

"This is one of the premier mediation programs in the world.  And nothing less than the lives of children are at stake."

Past Trainings: 2021

partners: CAlifornia Judicial Counsel, superior courts, USC

This is a life changing commitment to overcome all obstacles preventing success.

VO-LU-NE-SIA: That moment when you forget you’re volunteering to help change lives,

    because it’s changing yours.

    We promote from within.

80-Hour "Advanced Family & Dependency Mediation" Training

We offer California Judicial Counsel approved training.

    • 40-Hours Instruction   (free for our volunteers)
    • 40-Hours Field Training   (free for our volunteers)
    • Annual Continuing Education   (free for our volunteers)

    So what's the catch?

    1. The most challenging mediations can take a half day to a full day to resolve.  There's no way around it, a full weekday commitment (8:00AM to 4:00PM) is required, at least every other week.
    2. We invest heavily in our mediators, and ask for a minimum two-year (48-mediation) commitment in return (but we really want you for life).
